Flavors of Palermo’s Historic Mercato del Capo

Dear friends, I am excited to share with you two video clips. They showcase an afternoon spent shopping at the famous Mercato del Capo in Palermo, Sicily. Following our shopping trip at this historic food market, we returned to my apartment to prepare a delicious seafood pasta dish.

As I explored the market, I purchased ingredients that inspired me in the moment. There was no specific plan, and the recipe for the dish you’ll see me prepare came together naturally. We took our time walking through Mercato del Capo, soaking in all the sights, sounds, and aromas that this famous market has to offer.

Seafood, as you can imagine, is a staple at this market since it is located on an island. Given that all the fish is brought in fresh every morning, I decided to focus on seafood when conceptualizing my dish. As you will see in the first video below, Mercato del Capo is a fantastic place for a culinary experience! The second video features me cooking up a delicious seafood pasta dish in the small kitchen of my sixth-floor walkup in Palermo.

The Camera Crew

I want to give a big shoutout to the camera crew who helped put these videos together. They consisted of three social media interns from the Italian language school I was attending. These young men, who are from Reunion Island and speak French as their first language, were a perfect fit for this culinary adventure. They have similar markets in their own country. Years ago, I was on Reunion Island and made a video at their famous outdoor food market.  You can see that video by clicking here. The picture you see here is of all of us after we feasted on the fruits of our labor.

Let’s go shopping at the Mercato del Capo!
