Franco Lania and Marion Fortunato
The Italian Tribune is the longest-running Italian-American newspaper in the United States. It was founded in 1931 (nearly 100 years ago), and it is still run by the same family. I want to thank Marion Fortunato of The Italian Tribune for their wonderful review of my book Cooking Inspired!
The book is an inspirational memoir. The core premise is that cooking is a therapeutic tool for personal transformation, structure, and emotional healing. The book is not a traditional cookbook. It explores how the discipline, focus, and creativity required in cooking can help individuals navigate life’s most chaotic and difficult moments.
Key Themes of the Book
- Life Design Through Culinary Design: The book’s philosophy is that just as a great dish requires balance, precision, and vision, so does building a meaningful life.
- Healing and Recovery: I share how the rhythm and sensory engagement of cooking served as personal therapy to me. To help overcome major adversities, including addiction and the trauma of surviving the collapse of the 9/11 South Tower. And it just might be able to do the same for you.
- Structure over Chaos: I believe that the strict environment and repetitive demands of a professional kitchen can turn mental chaos into order. And ultimately help to focus and quiet an anxious mind.
- A Global Journey: My culinary career spans 30 years. The narrative traces my evolution from New Jersey supermarkets to Le Cordon Bleu in London. And eventually working across major global cities and luxury cruise ships.
